About Me
Hi! I’m Tanner — welcome to my corner of the internet.
I’m a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, balancing campus life, creativity, and a whole lot of learning. My days are a mix of studying subjects like marketing, humanities, gerontology, and Spanish, diving into research projects, and constantly challenging myself to grow both academically and personally.
When I’m not working on assignments or exploring new ideas, you’ll probably find me DJing, listening to jazz or classical music, decorating my space with creative touches, or discovering new spots around Reno and Las Vegas. I love writing, designing, and turning everyday experiences into something meaningful — whether that’s a reflection, a project, or a blog post.
This blog is my space to share what I’m learning, what I’m creating, and what I’m figuring out along the way. From college life to personal development to the things that inspire me, I hope something here connects with you.
Thanks for stopping by — I’m glad you’re here.
Stay a while!

Blog
The more time we spend online, the more we realize that not everything on our screens is as honest as it seems. Between manipulated data, fake posts, AI-generated images, and increasingly believable scams, the digital world can feel like a minefield. And honestly? I’ve run into more problems than I ever expected.
One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is how easily information can be manipulated to look completely real. Businesses and influencers edit numbers, inflate engagement, or present data in a way that hides the truth. I’ve seen “success charts” on social media that leave out important variables, ads that show impossible results, and product reviews that were clearly bought or written by bots. It can be hard to know what’s real when everything is designed to look polished and trustworthy.
But the part that became personal for me was when I ran into scams myself.
The first time it happened, it was a fake collaboration email from a brand I liked. The message looked professional, the links seemed legit, and they used real branding from the company. They asked me to “sign up” through their link for a sponsored partnership. What they actually wanted was my information—and potentially my money. It took me a minute to realize the website URL was slightly off and the Instagram page only had a handful of suspicious posts. If I hadn’t double-checked, I could’ve easily given away personal data.
Another time, I got a message claiming my account had been flagged for copyright issues. The link looked exactly like the login page of the platform it was pretending to be. This is where data manipulation becomes dangerous: scammers use real logos, stolen CSS, and copied layouts to create convincing clones. One wrong click, and they could access your entire digital life.
These experiences taught me how powerful data manipulation really is. It’s not just misinformation—it’s calculated, emotional, and often targeted. Scammers use psychological tricks: urgency, fear, opportunity, curiosity. They use familiarity to make you trust them, and they use design tools to make everything look official.
The real problems I’ve run into:
Almost giving out personal information to a fake brand deal
Clicking a near-perfect clone of a login page
Falling for misleading product claims
Seeing graphs or statistics online that intentionally hide the full story
Not knowing which reviews or comments are actually real
Feeling overwhelmed by how convincing scams have become
It’s frustrating, but it’s also eye-opening. These issues remind me how important digital literacy is—knowing how to verify sources, double-checking links, questioning “too good to be true” results, and recognizing emotional manipulation in online messages.
The internet is full of creativity and opportunity, but it also has traps. The more we understand how they work, the better we can protect ourselves and others. Data manipulation and scams aren’t going away, but awareness is one of the best defenses we have.
If you’ve ever run into a digital scam or misleading information, you’re definitely not alone. I’m still learning, but each experience makes me a little smarter—and a lot more careful.
